The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted stark sex differences during infection, with increased hospitalizations and deaths in SARS-CoV-2-infected men when compared to women. In fact, the immune system functions quite differently between the sexes: men generally develop more infections and have an increased frequency of cancer, while women have increased autoimmunity. In this talk, we will talk about sex differences in diseases and immunity and how these differences arise.
